Catherine Limehouse lovingly known as SHING by family, friends, and loved ones of her hometown of Summerville, SC was the second child born to the union of the late Samuel and Inez Rivers Limehouse on July 24, 1933. She attended the public schools of Knightsville (Dorchester County), Summerville, SC.
Escorted to church on the back of the wagon by Mr. Governor Black (neighbor), with her mother & siblings in tow. She loved attending church, whether it was at Campbell Hill United Methodist Church or Murray United Methodist Church in Summerville, SC. As a past gospel singer of The Rivertones, her mother, Inez would sing/harmonize along the ride to church in the wagon making the riding most memorable & soothing. At the age of 21, she left her beautiful son Leroy, who was being reared by her mother Inez to make a change in life. Leaving her small town of Summerville, SC and relocating to New York City, she traded her usual scenery of clay dirt roads, outhouses, and pumping well water, for skyscrapers, bright lights, and busy streets. There she continued her religion & faith with her eldest sister Marie Flood, at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Brooklyn, NY. While living in New York she gave birth to a beautiful daughter, Lynne Ivory with her daughters father David Keepler Sr, where they resided in Queens, NY til her relocation to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Catherine’s love for Christ never ended where it began, she joined St. Luke Baptist Church, Ft Lauderdale, FL in the early 1970’s. She served as a member of the #2 Choir, under the leadership of Rev. R.G. Hall til his passing in 1990, in which Pastor W.J. Gaskins (1993) took over the leadership of St. Luke Baptist. In 2006, Catherine transferred her membership to Chariot of Blessings Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Lillie R. Charles, faithfully til her health declined. When she couldn’t attend church, Pastor Charles would make sure, her member Mother Catherine-had a meal, prayer & communion.
For 20 years, Catherine touched the lives of many while serving as a hotel coordinator, and a household technician in the hotel industry. In Catherine’s line of work she came in contact with a lot of celebrities: Liberace, Fats Domino, Redd Foxx, Sister Sledge, and the Royal Family- just to name a few. Her hospitality, and being a social person, gave her the next push in life to work for the school system. For 20+ years, she served as foster grandparent in the Impact Broward Foster Grandparent Program at Walker Elementary School, also during the summers at Jack and Jill Center summer camp program for 12 years. She was known as grandma to so many Pre-K kids starting school.
Sadly, my MOTHER Catherine entered into eternal rest on the early hours of Wednesday January 24, 2024. I’m TRULY gonna MISS YOU, my QueenLynneIvory.
